Mammoth component and notebook manufacturer, Asus, has announced the release of 2 new graphics cards sporting 2 of AMD's new ATI 3870X2 graphics processors with quad (yes, thats 4!) DVI outputs. The boards imaginatively named EAH3870X2/G/3DHTI/1G and EAH3870X2/G/HTDI/1GM will be available this week in the US and can be had for a suggested retail price of $449, around $200 short of nVidias top end offering. Microsoft is moving ahead with its Vista Service Pack 1 as it has been sent in beta form to select testers.

Microsoft has made the announcement that the SP1 for the Vista operating system is not really going to add a whole lot to the brand new OS, but instead is going to improve on features which are already established and in the system.

Starbucks announced on Monday that it will give away over 50 million free "Song of the Day" downloads from Apple's iTunes Store, in conjunction with the launch of its partnership with Apple to offer free Wi-Fi access to the store in its cafes.

Between Oct. 2 and Nov. 7, Starbucks will give away 1.5 million Song of the Day cards each day at more than 10,000 locations; each day's song will be "hand-selected by Starbucks Entertainment," the company said.

Hackers have posted on file-sharing networks and websites what appear to be thousands of corporate e-mails and recorded phone calls from MediaDefender, an anti-piracy firm hired by record labels and movie studios.

MediaDefender charges content owners fees for services such as seeding "spoof" files of their music and video content on file-sharing networks.

O2 has won the right to become the first mobile operator in Europe to carry the iPhone. Apple and 02 revealed the news at press conference in London today.

The British carrier has signed a multiyear deal for an unspecified length of time (AT&T's contract with Apple in the U.S. is said to be for five years) with Apple for exclusive rights to the smartphone.
