WWDC Predictions, facts ?
Hopefully returning this year with his trusty sidekick Bertrand Serlet to help play with the new toys, we'll be seeing some cool things to look forward to a) releaseing and b) affording, eventually.
Heres a few bits n' bobs I think we'll be seeing shortly.
ZFS - this is almost guaranteed to be a part of the next OS enabling features such as the timewarp thingy(backup) and other handy goodies they'll no doubt build around it. This technically will be a colossal upgrade to the whole OS. Improving performance and opening the flood gates for new ideas. The future of this will be well worth watching.
.Mac - this basically needs to be tanked and replaced. Its a kind of business sounding entity which is not something for people. It doesnt empathise, it doesnt sound valuable to regular joe blow. I believe this 'service' *cough* will get a re-invention as a collection of user services. with the focus on people. not mac.
Desktop - There will be some kind of nifty feature relating to the desktop. adding another 'dimension' to working with a mac. This will likely come about as a result of the work done integrating ZFS mentioned earlier. Think 'depth'.
iPhone - There will be a pile of iPhone mentions. Integrating it with the PC/Mac will also be mentioned and shown using mail/outlook etc. There may even be a Windows PC on the stage (first ever vista at a wwdc ??)
AppleTV and iTunes - Additional updates. announcement of the YouTube stuffs and even more. There has been no software update for a while. Possibly considering additional codec support or tools to help use the AppleTV. I definately smell something.
One More Thing... - Will either be an updated ipod, mid-high range model (though unlikely cos thats what the iPhone is) or a mid to low range Mac Computer. The market has been itching for an affordable but capable pc, but not a mini one. And not a laptop. An affordable midrange computer for homes.
Safari/Widget - There may well be an official release of the updated browser and/or widgets and things that go with it. Anything web related.
Oh, there will be the obligatory smattering of 'boom' and 'isnt that great?'s.. Which generally are right. Δ
